WARDEN - Despite having to battle injuries and other distractions the Warden Cougars soccer team put itself that much closer to a Class 2B playoff berth over the past few weeks.

So despite Saturday's 4-3 home loss to Brewster, head coach Ed Aguilar is looking up.

"This game was our best game of the season and I was very pleased with the effort that the kids made to beat the top team in our league," Aguilar said. "I am especially proud of the 11 players that played the entire second half due to a lack of substitutes."

Despite the loss Warden (5-6, 5-3) appears set to claim the North Central Washington 2B's No. 3 seed according to Aguilar.

Brewster led 2-0 after 20 minutes of play but Warden got on the board after Fernando Landeros' long strike in the 24th minute.

Cougar Hector Camacho followed that up with a goal a minute later and the game was tied at 2-2. It was Camacho's 12th goal of the season.

Brewster took a 3-2 lead shortly after halftime only to see Carlos Gomez tie things at 3-3 about 20 minutes later.

The two teams were looking at overtime before Brewster scored only seconds from the final whistle in regulation during extra time.

Warden outshot Brewster 12-7 despite the loss.
