YAKIMA - A key second game loss makes the final two games with Chiawana on Friday, that much more interesting for the Moses Lake Chiefs softball team.

On Saturday, the Chiefs rolled to a 11-0 game one win at Eisenhower, only to drop a 6-4 decision in the nightcap to fall to 4-6 in the Big 9 and 10-8 overall.

According to coach Dave Gregory, a split with Chiawana would give the Chiefs fourth place and home field in the opening round, loser out district game on May. 12. Two losses would most likely send them on the road.

In the opening routs over the hosts Cadets, the Chiefs got 13 hits while backing up pitcher Haylie VanLaethem with no errors on the defensive end.

Cassandra Guerrero went 3-for-4 with a triple, double, and three RBI, while Alex Jones went 4-for-4 with a double.

VanLaethem scattered seven hits to go along with seven punch outs of the Eisenhower batters.

"Haylie pitched a great game on a cold, windy, night," Gregory said. 

But then all the momentum Moses Lake earned in the opener went kaput as the second game turned the day pear shaped for the Chiefs.

Leading 4-3 after four innings, the Chiefs saw their hosts score three times with two outs thanks to four Moses Lake errors and a base clearing triple.
