Whitefish Mountain Resort’s post-season

uphill policy expired last week, but with significant snowfall and

changing weather conditions, the resort reminds skier and hikers

that avalanche hazards in the ski area’s permitted boundaries do

exist. 

With no avalanche control, the resort

reports that some areas are unsafe for skiers and riders. Ski area

management does not recommend uphill traffic, which they say should

be pursued at one’s own risk.

“After the ski area has closed, the

mountain essentially becomes the backcountry,” resort spokesperson

Riley Polumbus said. “Anyone venturing into this area should be

aware of avalanche hazards and be prepared with the knowledge and

equipment required for safe backcountry travel.”

The resort also reminds hikers of the

dog policy which states that all dogs at the ski area, including on

Forest Service land, must be leashed and controlled at all times.

Fines for dogs off leash can range from $100 to $5,000.
