Rick L. Halberg, 60
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 13 years, 8 months AGO
Rick passed away unexpectedly April 29, 2011. He was born April 26, 1951, to Alan and Hilda Louise Halberg and raised in Long Beach, Calif.
He graduated from Brethren High School in Paramount, Calif., in June 1969. He attended Grace College in Winona Lake, Ind., and graduated in June 1974 with a bachelor's degree in English. He taught seven years at the junior high/high school he had attended. At this time he met, fell in love with and married Linda Bruce in 1976 at First Brethren Church in Long Beach.
Five years later their first child, Heather, was born. He briefly worked for Northwestern Mutual Insurance and for Farmers and Merchants Bank in Long Beach. Then he worked for the California Department of Corrections for 20 years and retired as a captain. During this time two sons were born, Joshua and Joseph. Rick and his family moved to Coeur d'Alene about 4 1/2 years ago. He briefly worked for Cafe Courier and was recently employed with Pizza Hut.
Rick had a black belt in karate and enjoyed basketball, skiing and hiking. He loved reading, studying, researching and discussing the Bible. Rick will be sorely missed by his family, friends and church family at Candlelight Christian Fellowship. We know he is in heaven having a glorious time. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16
Rick is survived by his wife, Linda Halberg; daughter, son-in-law and grandson, Heather and Benjamin Barden and little Luther; sons, Joshua and Joseph; mother Hilda Louise Halberg; brothers, Roy, Roger and Randall Halberg; and his sister, Cynthia Ho.
Thank you to all those friends and Candlelight Christian Fellowship for all their help and love during this sad time.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2011, with a luncheon following at Candlelight Christian Fellowship, 5725 N. Pioneer Drive, Coeur d'Alene, on the northwest corner of 95 and Dalton. Memorial at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
