Durglo jumps by leaps and bounds

WHITEFISH - She can scale skyscrapers in a single bound, Ronan-Mission's Adessa Durglo continued to dominate the jumping events at the Whitefish A.R.M. last Saturday.

Durglo placed second in the long jump (15-7.5) and third in the triple jump (32-11.5). She was joined in the placings by Jade Grey, who took fifth in the 3,200-meter run (12.55.82) and Twyla Hogge took fifth in the shot put (29-4). Jenny Larsson took fifth in the high jump (4-6).

For the boys, "Air" Jordan Franklin again showed that he's perhaps the fastest kid in Lake county, taking first in the 100 (11.48) and second in the 200 (23.34). Franklin has proven to be a very versatile track athlete and the events he'll compete in for the postseason are still up in the air.

"We are not sure yet which way he is going to go other than the high jump and the 400 relay," Ronan head coach Crystal Pitts said. "We still have a couple of meets to go before the big decision heading into divisional. He is running the best of his career and right now he is fighting a very tender hamstring. So we will be very careful the next two weeks and then make the final decision."

Junior Marcus Hungerford took third in the 800 (2:07.44). In the distance races, Paden Alexander took double-duty for the Chiefs and placed fifth in the 1,600 (4:58.32) and third in the 3,200 (10:45.64).

"Paden took third in 3200 with his best time of the season," Ronan head coach Crystal Pitts said. "The 3,200 meters is his favorite of the two races. He is improving every meet as he learns about pacing the race. He is a great addition to the team and fun to watch run."

Jalen Bell took fourth in the triple jump for the Chiefs as well. The 400-relay suffered a miscue in Whitefish but still should be on everybody's radar for the rest of the season.

"In Whitefish the sprint relay had a just barely missed handoff that was oh so close and would have been awesome," Pitts said. "But the boys will regroup and back for the next one."

Missoula Big Sky Quad

MISSOULA - Mission's Stephanie Lewandowski placed first in the 100 hurdles (17.59) for Ronan-Mission's highest placing at the Big Sky Quad last Tuesday, April 26.

Courtney Clairmont took second in the 400 (69.48) while Kiana Howell placed third in the 100 (14.52) and Twyla Hogge placed third in the shot put (28-10.5) for the girls.

For the boys, Jordan Franklin took second in the high jump (5-9) and third in the 300 hurdles (43.61). Teammate Alex Alimadadi took third in the 400 (56.62) and Paden Alexander took third in the 1,600 (4:53.20).

"The Ronan-St. Ignatius track and field team is starting to come together despite the lovely spring weather all of the spring sports are contending with," Pitts said. "Our team is showing growth at every meet and you can hope for the best and that it all works for the best of the kids at the end. As we start to wind down the season kids will start to specialize and start looking toward divisional."
