Downtown Cd'A is food central

Tourist season must be about here. We know about five new food places opening in downtown Coeur d'Alene. We'll try to outline them as they get close to opening. The first is Jonesy's Breakfast & Lunch, opening Wednesday at 819 Sherman Ave. The 4,000-square-foot place this past winter was the Sherman Junction Restaurant, and it previously housed several eateries, starting with Sambo's in the 1950s and most notably as Rustler's Roost.
Fresh ingredients used in made-from-scratch foods will be the rule, according to Tim Mitchell, who owns Jonesy's with his wife Erica (married April 2). With meals from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily (closed Mondays), the restaurant seats 50 customers at tables, booths and a counter and 50 more in a banquet/party room. The menu will have traditional breakfast and lunch items and some specials.
The Mitchells also own the Mangia Catering Co. (check www.mangiacateringco.com), with the next-door White House Event Center as their primary location. Tim also had restaurants in Spokane and Post Falls, the latter being the Mangia (meaning "eat" in Italian). They'll have 10 employees at Jonesy's. Information: 666-1641.
Stuff n' Things Boutique in Post Falls
Gifts ranging from candy to collectibles to antiques are discovered at Stuff n' Things Boutique, newly opened in Suite E at 205 E. Seltice Way, Post Falls. Also available are Amway, Mary Kay and Avon products as well as custom sewing and mending.
Owners are the mother-daughter team of Melody Wixom and Medena Ingraham, who came to North Idaho 25 years ago from LaCrosse, Wash.
Wixom also works at the Coeur d'Alene Casino, and Ingraham runs the store and volunteers with the American Legion in Post Falls. They support local artists in their storefront.
With an open house this week, hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 to 2 Saturdays. Email stuffnthingsboutique@gmail.com. Information: 704-4892.
Literary Souls moves to 3122 W. Seltice
Used books are offered at Literary Souls, which opened last week at 3122 W. Seltice Way (next to Northwest Martial Arts), Post Falls. The store previously was where Stuff n' Things is now on East Seltice.
Expanding from 900 to about 3,000 square feet, Literary Souls sells books and also does trade credits. Owner Robin Moss is there 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Check www.literarysouls.com. Information: 457-0494.
Pyramid Skate joins CdA Paddleboard
Skateboards, longboards and related clothing and accessories are offered at Pyramid Skate & Screen, which has joined Coeur d'Alene Paddleboard at 512 Sherman Ave. The "Screen" portion of the name refers to screen printing done by Eric Nelson, who owns the business with Kim Murdoch.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Phone 773-4620.
Here's this week's tidbits:
• Upcoming new downtown food places include the Dangerous Dog at 108 N. Fourth St., a brick-oven pizza place beside Christmas at the Lake on Sherman, Seasons of Coeur d'Alene at 209 Lakeside and an Asian restaurant in the former Takara location on Lakeside. And a new Mexican eatery will be at Dalton and Highway 95.
• A reader complained about "obnoxious" music in a new fast-food sandwich shop. It was so loud they almost left and won't be back. The employees defended the sound with "It's what we like," referring to the employees. More on music in restaurants later. Any readers have comments?
• Readers ask about Winco's in the acreage at Appleway and Ramsey Road and the Lucca's Restaurant with the several-month "opening soon" sign on East Sherman. Evidently the Winco's (grocery store) is "on hold" and the Lucca's ... who knows?
• The Prairie Avenue and downtown Cd'A farmers markets are opening. Check www.kootenaifarmersmarkets.org.
