YAKIMA - Playing a final tune up match before heading to this coming weekend's district tennis tournament in Yakima, the Moses Lake Chiefs took on West Valley on Saturday and saw both the boys and girls teams lose 5-2 decisions.
The host Rams dominated singles play in both duals, taking seven of eight total decisions.
On the boys' side, the Chiefs lost all four singles matches but did break through at No. 2 doubles, where Conner Koreis and Nathan Sanchez won a dramatic three-set epic, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (8).
Bryce Perez and Dallas Pryor earned the other Moses Lake win at No. 3 doubles with a confident 6-2, 6-2 triumph.
"Both sides were missing a top player and they are really strong at the top," Moses Lake head coach Jon Wrigley said. "They have three players with state experience and a couple more that are going to challenge for spots. We caught up at the bottom of the ladder, but they have firepower."
Winning in single for Moses Lake, was No. 3 singles player Alyssa Tucker who rolled to a 6-1, 6-3 win.
"Alyssa played a tough match and really did not give her opponent many free points," Wrigley said.
Earning the other Moses Lake girls win was the No. 1 doubles team of Annalise Odegaard and Ece Yilmaz who recorded a 6-4, 6-2 victory.
"Annalise was missing her partner and Ece really stepped up today," Wrigley said. "She has improved so much this year and it is nice to see her develop on the court."
