WARDEN - One mission down a few little bit bigger ones left to go.

On Saturday, the Warden Lady Cougars swept the Kittitas Coyotes 12-2 and 13-5 in a softball doubleheader to claim the title of the North Central Washington 2B South league title.

Next are district and state championships to aim for.

With the victories, Warden (17-2, 14-0) is already heading to the Class 2B state tournament by virtue of winning the league and now await a May 23 date at the district semifinals at Eastmont High School.

"We are just making the needed adjustments to make a strong playoff run," Warden head coach Wes Richins said. "What I like about our girls is that they are learning their roles and accepting them. This is a great bunch of kids to work with."

In game one, Warden had four-run outbursts in the third and fifth innings and used a strong pitching performance by Iris Rodriguez to secure the win.

Elizabeth Pruneda went 2-for-3 on her Senior Day, and Rodriguez added a two-run home run, while Narcy Guerra knocked in three runs.

After honoring their three seniors Pruneda, Stacee Villarreal and Amanda Elizade in between games, the Cougars came out a little sloppy in the field but did enough with the bats to back up Cassondra Platas' pitching effort.

"We didn't play very good defense in the second game and let them get back into the game," Richins said. "I'm just glad our bats came alive. Sondra pitched a heck of a game and really kept them off balance.  I wish we could have got a couple more outs for her."

Warden had 16 hits to counter their six errors.

Elizade went 4-for-4 with four RBI off of two doubles in her last home game at Warden, Rodriguez ended up 3-for-4 and Tawnie Gonsalez, Guerra and Pruneda each knocked out two hits.
