OTHELLO - Now that a state berth is in the bag, the Othello Huskies' soccer team can now move to the business at hand:
Winning the Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) District Championship game.
Behind a 3-1 shootout win on Saturday against the visiting Ellensburg Bulldogs, the Huskies (12-5) now face the Selah Vikings tomorrow at 5 p.m. for the CWAC's top seed heading into the state tournament.
The Huskies and Bulldogs were scoreless after the first half and Ellensburg did break through first, scoring in the 58th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
Othello then capitalized on a fortunate break, as Ellensburg scored an own goal for their hosts just five minutes away from the win and the game was tied at 1-1.
No one broke through in the waning moments of regulation nor in overtime so the teams had to settle it in the shootout.
Jesse Villareal, Martel Salcedo, and Jorge Campos all scored while Salcedo made some critical saves to secure the shootout win.
