EUREKA - The Mission Valley Mariners A team never let up against the Class A Glacier Twins, scoring in every inning and winning 16-5 in their first game of the Eureka Round Robin Tournament. Their bats were certianly on as they collected five extra-base hits.

Catcher Jack Humphreys led the way, going 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two doubles. Cole McArthur, Chris Clary and Josh Rustad also drove in two runs and had a double in the game.

Mission Valley jumped out to the early lead and led 7-0 through three innings.

Then the bats really came alive as the Mariners erupted for eight runs in the fourth.

Seven different Mission Valley players drove in runs in the matchup; Dalton Molhzon pitched three innings, striking out six, followed by Austin Reynolds throwing for two innings and fanning a pair.

In their second game, the Mariners faced the familair Missoula Pioneers but couldn't hold onto a 4-1 lead through four innings and fell 6-5.

That was despite the best efforts of Clary, who is quickly earning the attention of parents parking outside the outfield fences.

Clary went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two home runs in the game, but the Pioneers scored three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to win.

Austin Von Tom started the game for the Mariners and pitched 4 and 1/3 innings while striking out seven. He was relieved by Kellen Hoyt, who struck out two in 2 and 2/3 innings of

action. Von Tom also went 1-for-3 at the plate with a double.

Molhzon went 2-for-3 in the game, driving in one run for the Mariners and Humphreys also had an RBI. With pro scouts in the stands in Polson on Sunday to take a look at the Class AA Missoula Maverick's Ben Roberts, the Mariners had a tall task in facing the defending Legion state champs.

Mission Valley kept it close and only trailed 9-3 after three innings, but seven runs in fourth by the Mavs put the

game out of reach despite RBIs from Clary, and Molhzon.

Missoula would win 18-4 in five innings and hold the Mariners to five hits.

In the second game, Mission Valley was able to keep the high-powered Mavs offense more in check but couldn't get their own bats going and fell 11-0. The Mariners had just three hits as Humphreys, Von Tom and Clary made contact with the ball. Clary had a towering major league double that elicited some "ooohs" and "awwws" from the crowd.

Mission Valley is now 3-5 on the season.
