June Ellen Edgerton, 88
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 13 years, 8 months AGO
June Ellen Edgerton, 88, passed over to her Heavenly Home, on May 11, 2011, on a beautiful Sunny Spring day. She was born June 9, 1922, in Lyndon, Ind. Her parents were Jesse D. Knight and Lillian Gregory-Knight, both school teachers and educators.
Her father was the superintendant of a school district and later opened a successful Camera and Audio Visual Store in San Diego, Calif. Her mother taught Latin and poetry. Her family relocated to California in 1930, when she was 8 years old. She was the fourth of five siblings. Her eldest brother, Charles Knight, and youngest sister, Alma Sherwood, are both deceased. Her eldest sister, Ilene Wilson (93), and her second eldest sister Helen Mayer (91) continue to reside in San Diego.
She met her husband, John D. Edgerton Sr. in San Diego and was married to him on Jan. 18, 1942. She has four children, Jeanine Burton, David Edgerton, Susan Howell and Daniel Edgerton, all of whom currently live in Coeur d'Alene.
In 1959 to 1962 the family moved to Lincoln and Wahoo, Neb. The family returned to California and lived in Culver City, Canoga Park and Reseda, Calif. In 1986, after her husband's retirement they permanently relocated to Coeur d'Alene and have resided here for more than 25 years. She is survived by her husband of 69 years.
June was an excellent bowler, loved fishing, loved to play a variety of card and board games, and was an avid baseball fan. She was a longtime LA Dodgers fan and later became a hard-core Seattle Mariners fan.
She was extremely funny, silly, playful, talkative and was charming and witty. She was the epitome of UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. Anyone that ever met her loved her. She had a sweet radiant smile and gentle loving spirit. She could also be feisty and could be a fierce Momma Bear. She was the solid rock in our family. Her central focus was her relationship with Jesus Christ. She was a devout Christian and loved the Lord with all of her heart. She taught Bible studies in the home and at several of the churches she attended.
She is survived by her own four children; nephews, Dr. Roy Mayer Ed.D, Janice Yale, Mark Sherwood and Greg Sherwood; 13 grandchildren, Robin, Robert, Tammy, Carmen, Joe, Eshelle, Scott, Sara, Valerie, Jeremy, Justin, Danelle and Matt. She is also survived by 24 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, as well as her son-in-Law, John Howell, and her daughter-In-law, Barbara Edgerton.
She will be greatly missed by all of us but we celebrate her amazing LIFE and we all feel so honored and grateful to have had her presence in our lives. We have all been enriched by her and are so glad that the suffering she endured is now over and she has been set free to Fly Fly Away... Free at last!
Her memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 16, 2011, at English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d'Alene. This also happens to be her father's birthday, who she was very close to. She always said that once she got to Heaven, the first thing she planned to do was, "dance a jig with him" on the streets of gold in Heaven.
