SOAP LAKE - Touche said the Lady Tigers of Ephrata.
After losing out on the Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) regular season title last week, the Lady Tigers one upped the rest of the league field with a district tournament crown yesterday at Lakeview Golf and Country Club (par 71).
Behind medalist Kelsey Sage and the second-place performance of Allie Duff, the Ephrata girls golf team claimed a four-stroke win, shooting a 414 over their rivals from Othello to win the district title.
Sage won the tournament with a round of 89 and was followed by Duff's 98.
"Kelsey and Allie were the only two girls to shoot under 100," Ephrata head coach Heidi Burns said. "Kelsey played an amazing game of golf today. She not only hit the ball well but also played smart golf. If she had a bad hit she recovered with an amazing hit. Her being so focused this week at practice and today really helped her play smart golf. At the beginning of the year Kelsey told me her goal was to shoot under 90. What a day to achieve this goal. I could not be more proud of her."
Duff shot identical 49s on the front and back nine of the course.
"Allie played a good game of golf as well," Burns said. "Allie had a couple of bad holes that increased her score. However, she also stayed focused and came back with a great score on the next hole.
"Both girls played an amazing mental game of golf today which landed them on top," Burns added.
Also scoring for Ephrata were Megan Criss and her round of 106 and the 121 score put up by Rachael Autry.
Leading the way for oh-so-close Lady Huskies of Othello were Delaney Towle and Paulie Garza as each shot 101s. Kylie Kummer put up a round of 104 and Ketelyn Andrew shot a 104.
The top 22 individual finishers qualify for the state tournament meaning Sage, Tuff, Towle, Garza, Kummer, Criss, Andrew and Othello's Mikalya Parris, who shot a 113 score that didn't go toward the team total all advanced.
Othello's Haley Gruse was the second alternate.
Quincy's Karisa Arizmendi shot a 115 to also advance.
Arizmendi and Kaitlyn Coleman (155) and Elizabeth Diaz (164) competed for the Lady Jacks, who were short one golfer for a final team score.
