Ten years for raping children

EPHRATA - A Moses Lake man is serving at least 10 years in prison for raping his girlfriend's son and his daughter.
A jury convicted Blayne J. Coley, 29, Moses Lake, of two counts of rape of a child in the second degree after a December trial in Grant County Superior Court.
Coley has no previous felony convictions and faced a minimum sentence of 8.5 years to 11 years and four months in prison.
Once he serves his minimum sentence, a Department of Corrections board will review his case. If the board finds he isn't ready for release he will serve another two years in prison and his case will be reviewed again.
He could possibly serve up to life in prison.
Grant County Superior Court Judge Evan Sperline sentenced Coley to a minimum of 10 years in prison.
Sperline's decision came after Deputy Prosecutor Carole Highland requested the high end of the sentencing range.
Defense Attorney John Perry recommended a special sex offender sentencing alternative.
When Grant County sheriff's deputies responded to an Airway Drive residence, Coley's girlfriend told officers they had been arguing since the previous night because Coley admitted to molesting their 2-year-old daughter two years ago, according to a Grant County sheriff's report.
Coley admitted to being in the bath with the child, but denied any molestation, according to the police report. Coley also told police the woman's son molested him starting when the boy was 8 years old.
Coley admitted to having sex with the boy, but claimed the boy initiated it and it wasn't his fault, according to a Department of Corrections report. The evaluators stated the sex was likely to be consensual, but the boy was likely groomed and Coley should have stopped any advances.
