Timberlake, St. Maries to play for title

SPIRIT LAKE - Ashlei Jerome and Sydnie Malloy each had RBI singles with two outs in the sixth inning to lift the top-seeded Timberlake Tigers past the fifth-seeded Bonners Ferry Badgers 3-2 in the semifinals of the 3A District 1 tournament Friday at Timberlake High.
Nicole Cameron had nine strikeouts for Timberlake (17-5), which faces St. Maries in the championship game today at noon for a berth to state.
"Both pitchers threw great today," Timberlake coach Mike Menti said. "Chelsea (Taggart) and Nicole both had nine strikeouts. Chelsea did a great job of not letting us get on a roll. We got some hits, but couldn't bunch anything together."
Kodi Kuykendall had three hits for Timberlake.
Bonners Ferry defeated Kellogg 10-0 in a play-in game earlier on Friday and will face Priest River in a loser-out game today at 10 a.m. The two remaining teams play at 2 p.m. for the district's second berth to state.

SPIRIT LAKE - Dusti Huddleston and Morgan Cummings had three RBIs apiece as the third-seeded Lumberjacks defeated the second-seeded Spartans in the 3A District 1 tournament at Timberlake High.
"We started to string some hits together and put together a game offensively and defensively," St. Maries coach Todd Bitterman said. "Tia (Asbury) had really good command today. It's a good thing when those things come together."
Chelsea Grosvenor hit a two-run home run in the second inning for St. Maries (9-8), which faces Timberlake in the championship game today at noon.
Priest River will face Bonners Ferry in a loser-out game today at 10 a.m.
