Almost the time for Seasons

This new restaurant is no small project. In fact, it took three seasons and should be open by the fourth. Maybe that's why its name is Seasons of Coeur d'Alene.

With the sub-title as Fresh Grill & Bar, the 200-seat, 9,000-square-foot place at 209 Lakeside Ave. (across from the Coeur d'Alene Press) will open in June - in time for the summer season. The project began last fall when the 23-year-old Coeur d'Alene Brewing Co. closed when its lease wasn't renewed. The building is in the final phase of a complete remodel and began in the 1930s as Broderick Motors selling Oldsmobiles and Cadillacs.

According to Don "Pepper" Smock, who owns the business and building with his wife, Midge, "the concept is affordable, fresh, seasonal, regional foods highlighting the lunch and dinner menus. The bar will serve signature martinis and other spirits, an extensive wine selection emphasizing Northwest varietals and a dozen rotating microbrews."

Seasons will include a dining room, lounge with a fireplace, The Gallery banquet-meeting room seating 80 guests and a patio seating 25. Open 11 a.m. to midnight daily, Seasons will employ 50 to 60 people. Key personnel and their related experience include chef Scott Miller (Northern Quest Casino), general manager Nancy White (Beverly's in The Cd'A Resort), assistant manager Dirk Ferrell (Caddy Shack), bar manager Kevin Eskelin (Parkside Bistro), and banquet manager Melissa Hague. The Smocks are Coeur d'Alene natives and also have Coeur d'Alene Realty with Windermere Real Estate.

Dangerous Dog set for 108 Fourth St.

Called "a serious sausage and modern hot dog shop," the Dangerous Dog should open late this month at 108 N. Fourth St. (former home of City Perc).

According to owner Nancy White (mentioned above and also with Windermere), the menu will offer everything from the All-American hot dog to specialty sausages with unique toppings. These include Cajun spicy, barbecue, caramelized onion, sun-dried tomato and basil, roasted garlic, crushed red peppers, mozzarella cheese and balsamic aioli.

Side dishes will include coleslaw. Specials on the menu will rotate from recipes around the world.

With six to 10 employees, hours will be 11 a.m. to late night (11 p.m. midweek and 3 a.m. weekends).

Wild Flower opens in June

The men's and women's designer clothing boutique Wild Flower will open in early June on the main floor of the Parkside Condominiums (across from the city library and McEuen Field). The 900-square-foot space is where Mix It up was before it moved to Sherman Avenue.

Owned by Tawny Meagher, the store will be open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (possibly 9 p.m.) daily.

Here's this week's tidbits:

• Ah, the local "historian" I used last week is not only funny lookin', he's wrong. The building Jonesy's Restaurant opened in at Ninth and Sherman was not built as a Sambo's in the 1950s; it was built in the mid-1970s after a stately, three-story house there was demolished.

This mansion was owned by Dr. (and former U.S. Congressman) John T. Wood. Ron and Alice Rankin, parents of Janna Scharf and Kerri Thoreson, lived there in the 1970s.

"It was a glorious home base for my teenage years," Janna wrote.

"If I wasn't cruising Sherman, I was waving at the boys from the big front porch as they revved their motors cruising by. I met a cute Canadian boy cruising Sherman in 1972, and we're celebrating our 37th wedding anniversary next month!"

• Hey, many responses came regarding music in restaurants so it will be a main topic next week. We'll take more comments on type of music, volume, choice, location, etc.

• The Vietnamese restaurant Lemon Grass is going into where the Japanese Takara left on Lakeside.
