Moscow ends Lakeland's season in title game

RATHDRUM - Dezerae Maxey had three hits, two for doubles as the No. 2 seed Moscow Bears defeated the top-seeded Lakeland Hawks 5-2 in the championship game of the 4A Region 1 tournament on Saturday to advance to the state tournament.

"Moscow came out and played really good defense and hit the ball well," Lakeland coach Colleen Bevacqua said. "I'm really proud of my girls and the season we had."

Ashley Metcalf had six strikeouts for Lakeland, which finished 9-11. Lakeland beat Moscow in all four meetings in 4A Inland Empire League play, but Moscow upended the Hawks on Tuesday in the semifinals of the regional tournament.

Moscow (11-11) will face Columbia (16-11) of Nampa on Friday at noon at Ramsey Park in the opening round at state.
