SPIRIT LAKE - Jenna Hoffman hit a three-run home run with two outs in the third inning to spark the Timberlake Tigers past the St. Maries Lumberjacks 9-0 in the championship game of the 3A District 1 tournament on Saturday at Timberlake High.

"Jenna's home run really set the stage for the rest of the game," Timberlake coach Mike Menti said. "It really gave the girls the confidence they needed for the rest of the game."

Timberlake (18-5) will face Sugar-Salem (13-4-1) in the opening round of the state 3A tournament on Friday at Ward Field in Pocatello.

"It's really important to have won today," Menti said. "The last few years, we haven't rolled into state on a high note. This will really help us out because our girls are playing with some confidence and you really need that going into the state tournament."

Nicole Cameron had seven strikeouts and Kodi Kuykendall went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and three steals for Timberlake.

"Nicole had great command and control today," Menti said. "Kodi just had a great day overall."

Later, Dusti Huddleston went 3 for 5 as third-seeded St. Maries eliminated second-seeded Priest River 9-7 to earn the second berth to state.

"After the win Friday night, we knew they'd have some fight in them," St. Maries coach Todd Bitterman said. "We were able to score four runs in the sixth inning and turn a one-run game into a four-run lead."

Tia Asbury had two RBIs in the second-place game for St. Maries (10-9), which faces Fruitland in their opener on Friday.

“Making it to state is always a good thing,” Bitterman said. “We finished in the middle of the pack and played against some good competition this year. We stepped it up at the right time.”

Priest River eliminated Bonners Ferry earlier on Saturday.
