Libraries are not like McDonald's

There are still some VHS and books-on-tape available at the Columbia Falls Branch Library. These are temporary, as they will be replaced with DVDs. Some of these are being checked out on a regular basis. If you want anything left on VHS or cassette, you will have to make a point of letting your local librarians know.
Flathead County library director Kim Crowley suggests those of us interested in old books, like historical cookbooks and old classics, etc., might start a museum to house them. She is of the mind that if interest is generated in an author or a subject somewhere in the future, it will be reprinted and then can be brought back in the library system as a new book and contemporary.
I believe each library should be unique to its patrons' needs, not like a McDonald's with the same limited menu on every corner. At what point will all books be considered obsolete somewhere in the world and therefore not necessary anywhere in the world.
Please let your local library know what you want, whether it regards books, videos, keeping the library where it is or moving to main floor of Discovery Square. Send ideas by e-mail to [email protected].
