POST FALLS — A father and his son suspected of burglarizing area Wal-Marts multiple times were arrested Tuesday night after allegedly attempting another theft and leading police on a pursuit into Washington.

Michael Dyczok Sr., 65, and Michael Dyczok Jr., 35, both from the Spokane area, were booked into Spokane County Jail for charges of eluding a peace officer and destruction of stolen property after the chase ended in a field in the Liberty Lake area. Both are expected to be extradited back to Kootenai County as the alleged burglary occurred at the Wal-Mart near Cabela's.

Post Falls Police acted on a tip received from Wal-Mart that two male suspects would possibly be making an attempt to burglarize the business. Employees had observed the suspects in the store earlier in the day filling up storage containers with merchandise and placing the containers back on the shelf near the fire exit.

The detective who received the information, along with members of the North Idaho Violent Crimes Task Force, set up surveillance inside and outside the store.

During the operation, the suspects were observed entering the business and after a half hour of casing the business the suspects grabbed the storage containers they had filled with merchandise earlier in the day, and fled the store through a fire exit.

When the suspects left Wal-Mart they were approached by the surveillance team, however, they were able to make it into their vehicle and sped off quickly. The Post Falls Police patrol units joined the surveillance team, and a vehicle pursuit ensued into Washington State. During the pursuit the suspects were seen throwing stolen items out of their vehicle.

The suspects drove down a dead end road, just across the border, in Washington and became stuck in the mud. They were apprehended with the assistance of Washington law enforcement.

No one was injured.

There is reason to believe that the two are responsible for other burglaries involving other Wal-Marts recently, police said. This case is still under investigation. Anyone with additional information is asked to call Post Falls Police at 773-3517 or leave a tip at www.postfallspolice.com.
