Cancer fundraiser set

COEUR d'ALENE - A fundraiser is scheduled Monday for a Coeur d'Alene woman battling brain cancer.
Karen Payne, 52, recently began radiation and chemotherapy treatments after being diagnosed with two malignant brain tumors.
Payne, a single mom of two sons, works at the Kroc Center. She had been in good health until now.
"She's had headaches for a while, got dizzy and passed out," said a friend, Kameron Shadrick.
Monday's fundraiser is 6-8 p.m. at the Kroc Center. It will include a silent auction, prize drawings, dessert and more.
Proceeds will go to help Payne with medical expenses, as well as basic living expenses. She does not have insurance.
"Which is why she didn't go to the doctor," Shadrick said.
She said Payne is an active, outgoing person who encourages others and is well liked. Despite facing a tough road, Payne's faith is strong, Shadrick said.
"Her spirits are high," she said. "But she's worried about her sons."
