COEUR d'ALENE - Sink a hole-in-one in the fight against cancer.
Golfers, from pro to novice, will have that chance Friday during the American Cancer Society Relay for Life Golf Tournament at the Coeur d'Alene Resort golf course.
It's the second year for the tournament, proceeds from which are dedicated to fight a disease that in one way or another has affected nearly everyone.
"If you walked down the street, you probably couldn't point out one person who hasn't been touched by cancer," said event organizer Holly Hansen. "I can't wait for the day when we don't have to fund raise for cancer research anymore."
Meantime, golfers, hackers or anyone just in the mood for a walk can sign up for the shotgun scramble tourney that's taking in and squaring off teams of four.
Registration costs $115, and golfers will be playing for prizes, including a $10,000 hole-in-one prize at the big, lucky 14th hole. Three other hole-in-one prizes will also be up for grabs, each valued at $500. And any local business that sponsors a foursome team will receive a free hole sponsorship, a $50 value.
Participants will play in groups of four; single or double registrants will be grouped with other golfers to complete their teams.
It's the perfect match, Hansen said, as it's an opportunity to play at "one of the best courses around" while contributing to the American Cancer Society.
With more than $2,000 raised at last year's inaugural event, Hansen said the first tournament was a sure success. However, the "bar has been raised" this year, and Hansen hopes to exceed last year's proceeds.
The tournament is also intended to drum up excitement for the Relay for Life at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds, June 10-11.

Community Library Network’s new policies could fracture regional library consortium
For decades, the Community Information Network has enabled libraries in North Idaho and eastern Washington to share their collections and broadened patrons’ access to materials. Now a restrictive policy for minor library cardholders in the Community Library Network, unlike any other in the library consortium, could mean that patrons across the region lose access to library materials.
