A Bonners Ferry woman is lucky to be alive after her car was pinned under a semi truck Tuesday.

It took rescue crews nearly an hour to extricate Tanya Currie, 37, from her 2010 Pontiac Vibe.

Currie pulled pulled out in front of a southbound semi truck onto U.S. 95 from the stop sign on Deep Creek Loop near Mirror Lake Golf Course, according to Idaho State Police.

Thomas Hardy, 45, of Emmett tried to miss Currie, swerving into the northbound lane.  Her vehicle hit the truck and became embedded under the semi trailer.

 It took nearly an hour for crews to extricate Currie from her vehicle.

Boundary County Sheriff deputies, Bonners Ferry police and fire departments, Paradise Valley Fire Department, Boundary Volunteer Ambulance and Idaho State Police worked together to get her out of the vehicle.

  A MedStar helicopter landed on the golf course and waited to take Currie to Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’ Alene.  Currie’s injuries were not life threatening, according to ISP.

Hardy was not injured in the accident.

Traffic controls were in place for over four hours both in the north and southbound lanes of U.S. 95.

“It was a tremendous effort of teamwork by all agencies responding,” said PVFD chief Gary Leonard.
