WHITEFISH - Even though the Mariners B team fell to the Glacier Twins 16-6 last Tuesday, May 10, they certainly didn't give up the fight at any time.

"The kids never quit," Mariners B manager Chris Brown said. "In these 10-run games, it would be easy to fold and pack it in early but these kids kept fighting and scoring runs. I've been impressed with the kids, they never quit."

Zeke Webster-Yaqui started the game for the Mariners, and pitched well, cutting down the walks that plagued the team earlier in the year. However, in the third, the Mariners ran into some defensive issues and gave up 10 runs.

"The first two innings he looked great," Brown said. "It wasn't his pitching that gave up the 10 runs."

Brown said that the Mariners were able to cut down on the baserunners with the fewer walks, but like some other games this year, a big inning by the other team because of errors sank the B team.

"When our defense comes around we'll be in better shape," he added.

However, if the Mariners erased the third inning, it would have been a tied game. He added that the bats are starting to come around for the B team.

"Zeke hit the ball well and had some good at-bats," Brown said. "Michael Bornstein also had an extra-base hit. He burned the kid."

Now the M's will have a few weeks of road trips, starting with one this week in Libby and Eureka.

"The chemistry is so much better after road trips," Brown said. "When I talk to a lot of former players they say that their best memories are always the road trips."

You’ll have to excuse me for stating the obvious, I’m assuming everyone in Polson already knows this but Neal Lewing is one heck of an actor. I was first able to see the Port Polson player as Judge Turpin in the production of Sweeney Todd last November.
