Museum opens for season

KELLOGG - The Shoshone County Mining and Smelting Museum located in the former Bunker Hill Staff House in Kellogg has opened for the season.
This years featured exhibit will be "Timber to Tunnels" illustrating the interconnection between the logging and mining industries The exhibit will display photographs of early logging practices and the utilization of timber in the mining process.
In addition, in recognition of the 25th anniversary of the Museum's founding, there are also displays recapping the last five seasons special exhibits. The 2006-2007 Sunshine Miners Memorial now has been made a permanent exhibit on the second floor. The 2008 "School's of the Coeur d'Alene River Basin" exhibit is recapped as is the 2009 "150th Anniversary of the Mullan Road" with maps and photographs. From 1910, "Letters from Home - The 1910 Fire" features a letter from Jessie Colby, a Pine Creek homesteader during the fire.
The museum features 11 other rooms with exhibits of local interest, outside displays and a gift shop. The Museum will be open on weekends through May and will be open from Wednesday through Monday from June through September. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
