Eric Soles is rallying the community for veterans on Memorial Day.
Soles and fellow Edward Jones investment agent Patti Leach are organizing the annual Vernon Baker Memorial Day Lunch for Veterans on May 30.
"Sixty-seven veterans were fed for free last year," Soles said. "This is simply a voluntary way for us to show our appreciation for the folks who served to protect our country and our freedom."
Soles said restaurants willing to open their doors for two or three hours on Memorial Day are needed. The time is flexible. Soles suggests limiting the menu to a few options to make the meal easier on staff.
Soles said tax-deductible monetary donations are also needed to assist the participating restaurants.
Only veterans eat for free. Veterans can RSVP by May 27 by contacting Soles at 667-1539 or eric.soles@edwardjones.com or Leach at 755-0415 or pleach@roadrunner.com. Those interested in volunteering can contact Soles or Leach.
Veterans should bring a current or expired military identification, DD-214, dog tags, photo in uniform or any personal military paperwork.
Donations can be made out to VFW Post 889 with "Veterans Lunch" in the memo and mailed to Soles at 211 E. Coeur d'Alene Ave., Suite 104, Coeur d'Alene, ID 83814 or Leach at 3518 N. Government Way, Coeur d'Alene, ID 83815.
The event is named after Baker, the late Medal of Honor recipient who lived near St. Maries.
