Lake City's Luke Ness won his first two matches on Friday afternoon to advance to the semifinals in the state 5A boys singles tournament today at the Boise Racquet and Swim Club.

"I was expecting Luke to play well," Lake City boys coach Tim Scott said. "He has a tough match tomorrow against the defending state champion (Garrett Patton of Boise), but has fought hard and made it this far."

Ronique Padda advanced to the consolation bracket semifinals for the Lake City girls.

The Post Falls mixed doubles team of Brittany Engle and Jordan Hernandez won a consolation match, but were eliminated in the consolation quarterfinals.

"It's always a different world down at state - the competition is very different than what we are used to," Post Falls coach Angie Blair said. "It's nice to see this level of play because we talk about it, but it's different to actually compete."

In the 4A tournament at Julia Davis Park in Boise, Lakeland boys doubles team Godwin Peck and Laszlo Asztalos advanced in the consolation bracket and will compete in the quarterfinals today.

In the 3A tournament in Caldwell, Mindi Grantham of Coeur d'Alene Charter remains in the hunt for third place in girls singles for the Panthers.
