Fromm among six new
LCSC men's hoops signees
LEWISTON - Former Lake City and North Idaho College standout Nick Fromm was among six signees to the recruiting class at Lewis-Clark State College, new Warriors men's basketball coach Brandon Rinta announced.
Fromm, a 6-foot-6 forward, averaged 7.4 points and 3.9 rebounds per game at NIC.
"Nick gives us another physical presence inside," Rinta said. "He has the ability to step out and shoot it, but his toughness and work ethic are what make him a great player."
Rinta, who was an assistant coach at Northwest Nazarene for the past four seasons, will be reunited with 6-5 senior forward Darious Walker and 5-10 sophomore guard Joey Wayman.
Also in the class are Tommy Sperry and Trey Sobotta, both seniors at Clarkston High, as well as 7-0 freshman center Payton Pervier of Glacier Peak High in Mill Creek, Wash., and 6-0 freshman Sean Fisher of Spokane, who is transferring after redshirting at Eastern Washington University last season.
Danny Marshall, a 6-6 junior from the Community Colleges of Spokane, is also transferring to Lewiston.
Amateur golf tour coming
to Coeur d'Alene Resort
The Golf Channel Amateur Tour returns to action with the North Idaho Championship on Saturday, June 4 at The Coeur d'Alene Resort Golf Course.
The entry fee of $130 includes green fees, cart, range balls, trophies, scoring and prize fund. An optional $20 skins and other games will be available to interested players at check-in.
Deadline to enter is June 1 at 5 p.m. No late entries will be accepted and players are encouraged to register in a timely manner, as registration is on a first come-first served basis.

Vandals lose one
football scholarship
MOSCOW - Idaho lost one football scholarship for next year when the recent Academic Progress Rates were released by the NCAA.
Idaho has a four-year APR average of 923, just below the penalty limit of 925. The Vandals were penalized due to poor APRs in recent years. In 2007, the Vandals had a four-year APR of 904 and lost eight scholarships and in 2009 they had an APR of 908 and lost six.
Next year, the 880 disappears from the four-year average.
Adult tennis lessons to
begin in June in Cd'A
The Coeur d'Alene Recreation Department will be holding registration for adult tennis classes June 1-11 at their office, located at 710 Mullan Avenue in Coeur d'Alene.
The first session will begin on June 14 and will be held twice a week for four weeks.
A second session will start on July 12.
Classes will be held at the Cherry Hill Tennis Courts on 15th Street and students must supply their own tennis racket and a can of balls.
Cost for eight lessons is $35.
Scott Hague tournament
approaching next week
Entry deadline for the North Idaho College Scott Hague Memorial Cardinal Classic golf tournament is May 31.
The four-person scramble tournament will begin with a shotgun start at on June 3 at the Avondale Golf Club in Hayden. The event is being held in honor of NIC alumnus and community supporter Scott Hague, who died as a result of cancer in March 2005.
A registration fee of $100 per player or $375 per team includes golf cart rental and dinner from Outback Steakhouse. Holes are also available for sponsorship for $50 and corporate team/hole sponsorships are $425.
There is a 32-team limit and participants are encouraged to register by downloading a registration form at www.nicathletics.com or calling 769-3348.
L-C State to face Tennessee Wesleyan in series opener
LEWISTON - The Lewis-Clark State College baseball team will be the No. 7 seed in the 55th annual NAIA World Series and will open the 10-team double-elimination tournament on Friday against 10th seed Tennessee Wesleyan at Harris Field.
The tourney will run through June 3 in Lewiston.
Top seeded Embry-Riddle (50-9) and No. 2 seed Oklahoma City (46-10) will receive first-round byes.
LCSC, by hosting the tournament, receives an automatic berth.
Lamppa added to
Idaho volleyball staff
MOSCOW - Brian Lamppa was named assistant volleyball coach at the University of Idaho.
Lamppa was the associate head coach at Washington State from 2008-11 and has been coaching since 1999 with nine years of head coaching experience.
As recruiting coordinator at WSU, Lamppa recruited and developed two Pac-10 Conference all-freshman selections and helped the Cougars to a top-25 national ranking and wins over four teams in the top 25.
He was also head coach at the University of South Dakota from 2003-08, guiding the Coyotes to a school record 23 wins in 2007 and the school's first two NCAA tournament appearances.

signs with Eastern Washington
CHENEY - Jordan Hickert has signed a letter of intent to attend Eastern Washington University and play basketball, coach Jim Hayford announced.
Hikert, a 6-foot-9, 225-pound forward and formerly of Bunbury in Western Australia, made 56 of 130 3-point attempts this past season for Neosho County Junior College in Chanute, Kan.
Hickert averaged 9.6 points per game on 47.1 percent from the field and averaged 7.8 rebounds and had 14 blocked shots and 36 assists on a 16-15 team.
His father, Daniel Hickert, played in the 1977-78 season for Kansas State, which finished the year 18-11. Daniel went on to play professionally for Perth in the National Basketball League in Australia.
Locals tie for 13th
at Washington Open
BELLEVUE, Wash. - Matt Bunn of Hayden Lake Country Club and Russell Grove of Avondale Golf Club each shot a three-day total of 216 and finished tied for 13th at last week's Washington Open at Glendale Country Club.
Tim Feenstra of Seattle won the tournament with a 200.
Newlee adds four to Vandal
women's hoops roster
MOSCOW - Idaho women's basketball coach Jon Newlee completed his signing class for the fall with the addition of four signees, including three international students and a junior college transfer.
Maren Austgulen, a 6-foot post from Bergen, Norway, averaged 15.1 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game in 2010-11, leading her team to a Norwegian Elite League national championship and gold medal in the Norwegian girls under-20 national championship.
Stacey Barr, a 5-8 guard, leads Australia's Big-V Basketball Division 1 in scoring with 24.4 points per game, 9.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists.
Ashleigh Kelman-Poto, a post from Auckland, New Zealand, and Adriana (Addie) Schivo, a transfer guard from Foothill College in Los Altos, Calif., round out the recruiting class.
Kelman-Poto was captain of her premier girls team at Mount Albert Grammar School and Schivo led Foothill College to a first-place finish in the Coast-North Division and was second in the league in scoring with 17.3 points per game and a season-high 31 points.
The four join Jenny Rocha, Krissy Karr and Tayler Weiks, who signed with the Vandals in the fall, and Natalie Lainhart, who signed earlier this spring, to give the Vandals a total of eight newcomers, including seven who will be freshman in 2011-12.

Parade All-American
Incoming freshman Washington State women's basketball player Jordan Kelley has been named to the Parade All-America high school girls basketball team.
Kelley, a 5-10 guard out of Campbell County High School in Gillette, Wyo., is a two-time Gatorade Wyoming Player of the Year. This past season, she led the state in scoring at 24.0 ppg and finished among the state leaders in rebounding (6.9 rpg), assists (4.0 apg) and steals (3.1 spg). Kelley capped her Campbell County career with a second state title in three years, leading the Camels to an overtime victory in the 4A state championship game with a game-high 34 points.
Kelley is one of 40 high school basketball seniors from 30 states to receive the honor and was the only player selected from Wyoming. The team is compiled by Parade in association with Sporting News.
