The Idaho State Police investigation into the death of a California man during an attempted arrest has been delayed.

The incident took place on May 16 north of Bonners Ferry.

The ISP is working on a homicide investigation that broke almost simultaneously in St. Maries, said Boundary County Sheriff Greg Sprungl.

“We initially expected a fairly quick investigation," Sprungl said.  “The St. aries case took priority.”

A St. Maries man was reported missing May 16 after he failed to show up at work at the Stimson Lumber Mill. The body of Robert D. Marek, 43, was found early Tuesday morning.

In Bonners Ferry, a call came in to dispatch at 12:15 a.m. from a local resident claiming a vehicle was blocking the roadway on Highway 95.

A sheriff’s deputy responded and made initial contact with the subject.  While taking the man into custody he appeared to have an unknown medical event.  The deputy called for an ambulance and the man was transported to Boundary Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

There are unconfirmed reports that a Tazer was involved in the incident, but Detective Dave McClelland said that he could not comment on the matter until ISP completes the investigation.
