Man reports theft, battery

COEUR d'ALENE - A Spokane man says he was robbed of his wallet and cell phone while just standing around and smoking, police said.

The man said he was on the 400 block of Indiana Avenue when he was suddenly "hit from behind," according to a police report.

That was the last thing he remembers.

Police described injuries that included an abrasion on his right eye, a cut lip, and bruise on his rib cage area. The alleged victim also told police he suffered a concussion in the incident.

The reported assailant snatched the wallet from his back pocket and phone from the front, according to police.

Broker reaches plea deal in East Idaho fraud case

POCATELLO (AP) - Federal prosecutors say they have reached a plea agreement with a former Idaho Falls investor accused of duping clients out of millions of dollars in a Ponzi scheme.

Court documents filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Pocatello spell out the plea agreement reached with Daren Palmer.

KPVI-TV reports Palmer has agreed to plead guilty to one count of wire fraud and one count of money laundering. He is scheduled to appear in court June 2 to formally enter his plea.

Prosecutors filed the charges against Palmer last week, culminating a two-year FBI investigation. Palmer has already been ordered to pay about $90 million in restitution and fines.

Investigators accused him of operating a Ponzi scheme through his company Trigon Group that fraudulently took more than $76 million from 68 separate investors.
