Don't judge a show by its title

COEUR d'ALENE - The musical parody "Urinetown" opens at the Lake City Playhouse at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
"Urinetown" has been nominated for 10 Tony Awards and has won three, including Best Director, Best Original Score and Best Book Of A Musical.
How could a play with such a strange title win so many awards?
Director George Green has the answer.
"Don't judge a book by its cover, don't judge a show by its title," he said.
Unlike the title leads you to believe, this show contains no foul language and is appropriate for ages 13 and older. People who have seen the shows "Fiddler on The Roof" and "Chicago" will quickly recognize that "Urinetown" is making a big joke, Green said.
Even if you are not a theatre goer you will still be entertained by this musical, he said. It does have standard themes that are normally found in theater, but for the most part it's just a satire that is meant to keep its audience entertained, he said.
So why did George Green, Playhouse artistic director, decide to direct this show?
"I knew it would be entertaining," he said, "It's a huge undertaking ... and I knew that the strongest talent would audition, and they have."
Choreographed by Ali Wade, and with Zach Baker as the music director, "Urinetown" is a performance you won't want to miss, he said.
Thursday, Friday and Saturday showtimes are at 7:30 p.m. on May 27-28, June 2-4, June 9-11 and June 16-18. Sunday showtimes are at 2 p.m. on May 29, June 5, 12 and 19.
