Richard A. Louthan, 73, passed away May 22, 2011. He was born Oct. 3, 1938, to Frances and Merle Louthan in Crawford, Neb.

Richard graduated from Rathdrum High in 1956 and spent 11 years in the U.S. Navy. He graduated from Washington State University and passed the Washington State Bar in Feb. 5, 1974. He practiced law for several years and joined the Peace Corp. for a time.

He reentered the law profession and became a judge in Tucson, Ariz., then moved to San Francisco, Calif., and worked for the state of California and later moved to Sacramento, Calif.

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and John Darlas of Coeur d'Alene; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Mary Louthan of Rathdrum; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by both parents and brothers Jack and Joe.

A memorial service will be held at the Veterans Cemetery in Sacramento at a later date.
