Ruby Gladding, 95, longtime resident of Coeur d'Alene, passed away Saturday, Oct. 28, 2011. She was born in Backus, Minn., on Nov. 16, 1915. Ruby was the second eldest of 13 children and she has eight grandchildren.

She married Clarence T. Gladding who preceded her in death. He was a logger and Ruby spent time with him in Bovill and surrounding areas, when she could find time. Most of her time was spent at home raising her three girls.

Ruby was a working mother and worked many years at the former Goodie Shop, where she was an assistant baker. She also worked for Ammons Cleaners in the '50s and later for French Cleaners and The Goody shop bakery, all in Coeur d'Alene. Her hobby was her beautiful garden, for which she raised many vegetables and spent many hours tending. In later years she turned it to a flowered landscaped yard. She had a great passion for fishing out on Lake Coeur d'Alene and surrounding lakes. Another gift she had was making handmade gifts that she created, for all her friends and family. Ruby enjoyed gardening, walking in the woods and fishing.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence Gladding; daughter Barbara; and four sisters and five brothers.

She is survived by three daughters and their husbands, LaVonda and Ron Crothers of Pacific Beach, Wash., Patty and Jack Bush of Spokane, Gail Franson of Redmond, Ore.; her best friend and sister, Velma McDonald of Coeur d'Alene. She is survived by 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren whom she loved very much.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, at Yates Funeral Home on Fourth Street in Coeur d'Alene.

Donations may be made in Ruby's name to Hospice of North Idaho, 9493 N. Government Way, Hayden, ID 83835. Please visit Ruby's memorial and sign her online guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Sandy Hess who provided Ruby with such loving care.
