Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 13 years, 2 months AGO
Dean Albert Primmer, 68, of Rathdrum, passed away Oct. 16, 2011. Born Dec. 3, 1942, in Spokane to Dan and Elma (Lockman) Primmer.
Dean resided most of his life in Rathdrum on the family farm. After graduating from Rathdrum High School in 1961, Dean completed NIJC's vocational program specializing in mechanics and auto body repair. Upon completing his education, Dean went to work for Jerry's Auto Body Shop in Coeur d'Alene.
Dean served his country in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1967, and upon returning settled into his lifelong career with Lakes Highway District where he retired as Foreman and then served a term as District Commissioner.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents and sister Viola Delgado.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Clara (Waters); children Cyndi (Young), Dino, James and Serena Primmer; five grandchildren Josh, Brittany, Corey, Saige and Gavin; sisters Peggy Schroyer and Lu Moses; and numerous nieces and nephews.
With an infectious sense of humor and ready smile, Dean made a special bond with all who knew him, and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. A man with many talents, Dean showed his artistic talent in his woodworking projects. With telescope in hand, Dean never gave up an opportunity to share the wonders of the universe with everyone; he was an amateur astronomer at heart.
Dean enjoyed auto racing and loved the outdoors (from the wilderness surrounding his lifelong home to the pristine hidden lakes in the Idaho mountains), science, the history of technology including colonial and frontier firearms, maritime vessels and military aeronautics. Dean's greatest joys came from sharing the wonders of the natural world and his reverence for a historic B-17 with any willing student.
Friends and family are invited to a potluck celebration of life to be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, at Twinlow Camp in Twin Lakes.
Memorials may be made to Twinlow Camp and Retreat Center.
