COEUR d'ALENE - Freshman Cole Luckett scored a team-high 18 points to lead the North Idaho Cardinal men's basketball team past the North Idaho All-Stars 96-60 in their nonconference opener on Thursday at Christianson Gym.
"He's been playing really well for us," NIC coach Jared Phay said of Luckett. "He is one of the hardest workers on the team and that work is paying off for him."
Sophomore Petar Joksimovic had 16 points for NIC, which outrebounded the All-Stars 62-42.
"Petar played really well," Phay said. "He did a little bit of everything for us. We were hoping we'd outrebound them. That's a point of emphasis for us this year and if we can do that, I think we'll do really well this year."
Michael Middlebrooks and Jordan McCloud had 13 points apiece for NIC, which faces La Jolla Prep of San Diego in the Gordon Paving/Gold's Gym Invitational in Twin Falls next Friday.
Former NIC and Gonzaga player Winston Brooks had 21 points for the All-Stars. Former Coeur d'Alene High guard Nate Clinton scored 18 points for the All-Stars.
