COEUR d'ALENE - A 34-year-old Coeur d'Alene man has been jailed and charged with robbery after he pulled what turned out to be a BB gun on two other men and demanded money.
Coeur d'Alene police said Jeremiah H. Starr allegedly stole cash from the Coeur d'Alene men, ages 18 and 21, using the gun, which the alleged victims believed was a real weapon.
Approximately 11 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to a report of a fight at 12th Street and Coeur d'Alene Avenue.
Police initially were told by a reporting party that a fight had broken out between two men, and that one of them was armed with a gun.
The two alleged victims told police the incident started when they were walking to a friend's house and they spotted a man walking toward them on the opposite side of the street.
Officers said they spoke to Luther Nicholas, 21, and Michael Garitone, 18, who said a man, who allegedly turned out to be Starr, quickly approached them and pulled a real-looking hand gun from his waist pocket.
They said he pointed the gun in Garitone's face and demanded money.
After grabbing a small amount of cash, Starr walked away and Garitone and Nicholas started following him to see what vehicle he would get into.
They said Starr turned around and threatened them again.
Starr then ran toward them and began to fight with Garitone, who wrestled the gun away from him.
Starr ran to a nearby residence and went inside.
Garitone and Nicholas told police they had never met Starr before.
Officers on scene were able to locate Starr hiding in the basement of the residence he entered as he fled the scene. The house is located on the 1100 block of Coeur d'Alene Avenue.
A female at the residence told police that Starr is the father of her baby.
Officers recovered an Airsoft BB gun from the scene that looks like an actual handgun.
Starr was booked into the Kootenai County jail for robbery.
