FVCC honor society
Flathead Valley Community College announced its newest Phi Theta Kappa members during the international honor society's fall induction ceremony Oct, 24. Among the 35 FVCC students inducted into the Alpha Iota Pi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa were Columbia Falls students Michael Koskela, Amanda Osborne, Kathleen Pearson, Monica Peterson, Cheryll Pitts, Angela Tanguay and Natalie Valov and Hungry Horse student Clayton Martins.
Boot camp
Army Pvt. Hunter Fishel recently graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, in Columbus, Ga. During the nine weeks of training, Fishel received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness and first aid, along with Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman. Fishel is 2011 graduate of Columbia Falls High School.

Whitefish Mountain Resort’s post-season uphill policy expired last week, but with significant snowfall and changing weather conditions, the resort reminds skier and hikers that avalanche hazards in the ski area’s permitted boundaries do exist.
