A rash of burglaries is continuing in the Coeur d'Alene area.

The Kootenai County Sheriff's Department reported about $25,000 worth of items were taken from homes and businesses from Thursday through Saturday.

Some of the stolen items included a gold and diamond engagement ring valued at $20,000, power tools worth $1,300, cables valued at $1,900 and a laptop computer and a revolver valued at $1,500.

Burglars broke into homes on North Huetter Road; West Summer Mill Lane, South Swan Court, East Mullan Trail Road, East Timber Lane, South Captains Road, all near Coeur d'Alene; and West Charlies Place near Rathdrum,

A business on North Reed Road near Hayden reported that someone stole checks totaling about $284,565.

Coeur d'Alene police also reported a home burglary.

According to a report, it's suspected someone climbed through an unlocked window of a home on College Way on Thursday afternoon. The homeowner reported that a .44 revolver valued at $500 and a laptop computer valued at $750 were missing.

The sheriff's department previously reported there were 91 residential burglaries in Kootenai County since the first of September through mid-October, up from 21 over the same period last year.

Most have occurred during the day when residents often aren't home. Suspects are believed to be roving neighborhoods knocking on doors, kicking them in if no one answers, and offering dog-walking services or firewood for sale if someone does.

Thieves are targeting jewelry, cash, computers and firearms, items that are easy to carry off.

Residents should lock doors and windows and be aware of unusual activities in their neighborhood, law officers says.
