HAYDEN LAKE - Hayden Lake City Councilman Chris Beck defeated incument Nancy Morris with two-thirds of the votes counted Tuesday night.

Beck got 128 votes for 71 percent of the vote total, compared with 52 votes and nearly 29 percent for Morris.

Tommy Frey and Ed Graves won the two council seats, beating incumbent Bob Grant and William Bentz. Frey received 104 votes and 34 percent of the vote, and Graves received 93 votes and 30.5 percent of the votes cast for council. Grant got 69 votes and Bentz 39 to round it out.

Morris has been mayor the last four years, and was on the council two years prior to that. She also was city clerk for 25 years.

"I love this city," she said. "I've lived in it since 1950. I've given my service."

She said there's been a turn in public thinking.

Beck will choose someone to fill his spot on the city council and the council must approve it.

Morris had no comment on her opponent. "I'd rather not voice my opinion," Morris said.

Beck said, "We've had some divisiveness among some in the community."

Beck said he'll be working to bring some of those people together for the benefit of the city.

Beck was on the Hayden City Council for eight years, and spent nearly 15 years on the Panhandle Health District board. He said he also knows Hayden Mayor Ron McIntire well.

"Hopefully we can do some good things between the two cities," Beck said.

He commended Morris for her "tremendous service" to the city of Hayden Lake. He said, "She's brought a lot to our community."
