I talked to Gordon Steinmetz the other day. You may remember that Steinmetz owned Big Wally's in Coulee City for many years, founded the Big Wally's Walleye Tournament, and was a noted walleye guide on Central Washington waters. He now spends as much of his time as possible on his houseboat at Two Rivers. He told me that the walleye fishing is very good right now, particularly in the Spokane Arm.

One local couple is limiting every day, and the fish are now running a respectable 17 to 20 inches. Earlier this season there were large schools of smaller fish around, but now bigger fish are easier to find. This is actually a good time to be walleye fishing on many Central Washington waters.

Potholes Reservoir can be very productive now, and although I have heard of some great bass fishing at Banks I haven't heard about walleye in the low water. Most people focus on triploids on Rufus Woods, but there is some excellent walleye fishing on Rufus. This can be a great time for walleye below Wells Dam, before the water temperatures get too cold. So don't forget, even though it's getting cold, there are some warm water species to be caught right now.
