SKC kicks off season on the road

Here is a roundup of how SKC basketball did last weekend
LADY BISON
MILES CITY 86, SKC 61
It would be an understatement to say that SKC's Charla Brown can put an offense on her back and carry it.
Against Miles City Community College on Saturday, Brown scored 29 points in an 86-61 loss as the Lady Bison kicked off their 2011-2012 season with a cross-state roadtrip.
"It was good to see her step up," Lady Bison head coach Juan Perez said. "She's not afraid to take the ball in the paint against the bigs."
The multi-talented Brown hit close to 40 percent of her shots from the field and also had a field day from the charity stripe, making 13 of 18 free-throw shots.
Shaylene Piedalue also came off the bench to score 10 points. Post Priscilla Raven added eight points.
Miles City attacked with multiple weapons as four different players scored in double digits and two additional players were a bucket away from multiple digits. They jumped out to a 45-25 halftime lead, thanks largely to a 5-for-13 three-point barrage that gave them the 20-point advantage.
However, SKC improved their scoring output to 36 points in the second half and improved their shooting percentage from a cold 19 percent to over 40 percent from the field. They also tightened their defense and Miles City hit just one of their 12 three-point attempts in the second half.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN 104, SKC 51
The Lady Bison got out to slow shooting start in their season opener and couldn't recover as they fell to the Rocky Mountain JV squad, 104-51, Friday. Priscilla Raven led the team with 14 points and nine rebounds and Chantel Jenkins added 10 points and seven rebounds.
"I'm expecting more out of Priscilla this year," Perez said. "And Chantel is consistent. She goes out and works hard. She's one of my team captains and she's starting off quicker than last year."
SKC shot 28 percent while Rocky Mountain shot 54 percent, including 50 percent from behind the three-point line. The Lady Bison did get some impressive production from newcomer Eva Green, who scored nine points and should be a strong post presence.
"Overall, all of the players showed some spark of good things to come this weekend," Perez said.
BISON
MILES CITY 90, SKC 64
Newcomer DJ Fish scored 19 points while hauling down eight rebounds and veteran Ralston Moore added 15, but the Bison fell 90-64 to Miles City Community College last Saturday.
A slow start hurt the Bison as they trailed 51-22 at halftime, but the Bison outscored MCC 42-39 in the second half as their shooting percentage increased.
There were plenty of positives from the game, the Bison forced 18 turnovers and shot 60 percent from behind the three-point line in the second half, and head coach Zachary Conko-Camel said the slow shooting start is definitely fixable.
"This year we're a lot stronger and faster," Camel said.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN 88, SKC 80
In their season opener against Rocky Mountain, SKC looked strong on defense and offense but just fell short in an 88-80 loss.
"We matched up with them, but we just missed shots," Camel said.
SKC shot 40 percent in the first half and went into halftime with a 41-32 lead. However, that percentage dipped to 32 percent, while Rocky Mountain shot 67 percent from the field in the second half and ended up with the win.
SKC saw four different players get into double digits, showcasing just what kind of depth the Bison will have this year.
Dennis Sangrey scored 10 points and five rebounds, and along with Ralston Moore will provide veteran leadership on the team this year, along with post Sonny Eppinette, who scored 17 points in the Rocky Mountain game.
"He's a senior this year so he just wants to go out with a bang," Camel said.
Isaiah Martin, who played with the team briefly last year, has shown tremendous focus and scored 19 points while pulling down nine rebounds.
DJ Fish added 10 points and four rebounds.
"He is just an outstanding player," Camel said of the 6'5" post. "He's come in in-shape and ready to go."
The Bison will have an emotional game next Thursday against NIC as they will retire the number of Marvin Lewis, who drowned earlier this year.
"We just want to make sure Marvin gets the appreciation and respect that he deserves," Camel said. "He was just that special of a person."
