Classical guitar concert, pottery show to be held at JACC

POST FALLS - Leon Atkinson, host of National Public Radio's "The Guitar Hour," will perform a classical guitar concert at the Jacklin Arts and Cultural Center, 405 N. William St., Post Falls, tonight at 7:30.
It will be the first solo performance for Atkinson, from Sandpoint, since his kidney transplant on July 6.
"It's a new era of my life, and I'm really excited about it," Atkinson said.
Atkinson has performed at the JACC for the past three years.
"I like the venue," Atkinson said. "It has a nice ambiance about it."
Atkinson said he may also sing a surprise song or two.
Cost is $20 for adults and $15 for students. Tickets remain on sale and can be booked by calling 457-8950. They'll also be sold at the door if there's seating available.
Atkinson has degrees from the Manhattan School of Music and the International Course of Music, Santiago de Campostela, Spain.
Atkinson has performed around the world with likes of Ron Carter, Mary Lou Williams and the Alvin Ailey Ballet. In 1974 he debuted at Town Hall and the following year he played Carnegie Hall.
• The JACC will also host a pottery show, including the work of Steve Scroggins from Fine Art Gallery in Coeur d'Alene and other local artists, from Nov. 18 to Dec. 9.
The opening reception will be on Nov. 18 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. There is no admission for the reception and show. Wine and cheese will be available at the reception for sale.
The show is open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or by appointment with office staff.
The JACC, on the Register of Historic Places, is a nonprofit dedicated to promoting arts to the region.
