Few surprises in second ballot count

EPHRATA - The Grant County Auditor's office released the latest election results Wednesday evening after most remaining ballots were counted.
Returns so far reveal a voter turnout of more than 47 percent, with 16,532 ballots counted in 65 precincts and an estimated 1,200 left to go, according to Grant County Auditor Dave Firebaugh.
The next count is scheduled for Thursday at 2 p.m. and all votes will be certified Nov. 29.
Moses Lake City Council
Moses Lake Mayor Jon Lane retained position 7 against challenger Todd Voth, 52 percent to 48 percent.
In position 6, Dick Deane kept his seat safe from challenger James Liebrecht, capturing 62 percent of the vote to Liebrecht's 38 percent.
Jason Avila edged out Darrin Jackson for the position 3 seat currently held by Richard Pearce. Avila received 52 percent to Jackson's 48 percent.
Soap Lake City Council
Mayoral challenger Raymond Gravelle beat incumbent mayor Wayne Hovde, 59 percent to 41 percent.
Position 1 challenger John Glassco holds a thin, four-vote lead over incumbent Barney Berg, giving him 50.5 percent of the vote to Berg's 49.5 percent.
In position 2, Kat Sanderson's 62 percent put her in the winner's seat over De Vaun Black, who received 38 percent.
Challenger Keith Hagglund captured position 6 from incumbent John Cline, gathering 60 percent to Cline's 40 percent.
Position 7 Councilwoman JoAnn Rushton retained her seat from challenger David Ready, receiving 53 percent to Ready's 47 percent.
Moses Lake Port District 10
Stroud Kunkle wrested port commissioner 2 position away from Brian McGowan, 55 percent to 45 percent.
Warden Mayor
Current Warden Councilman Tony Massa was the clear winner over newcomer Kayla Kight, 77 percent to 23 percent.
Grand Coulee Mayor
Chris Christopherson beat Mike Horne for the city's mayoral position, 55 percent to 44 percent.
Coulee City Council
Otto Jensen won position 2 over Carmen Hammons, 65 percent to 35 percent.
Lorna Pearce edged five votes ahead of Truman Crisler for position 3, 51 percent to 49 percent.
Quincy City Council
Position 3 challenger Thomas Harris beat incumbent councilman Tony Gonzalez, 53 percent to 47 percent.
Electric City Council
Corrine (Marie) Chuinard was the clear position 3 winner over write-in candidate Lonna Bussert, 70 percent to 30 percent.
School board positions
In the Ephrata School District, Bill Correll received 59 percent of the votes for the director 2 position and Paul Harrison received 41 percent.
In the Moses Lake School District's director 1 position, Allan Burritt beat Steven Crapson 58 percent to 42 percent.
In the Royal School District's director 4 position, Michael Noftle beat Ben Fanning 58 percent to 42 percent.
Grant County Fire District 8
For the commissioner 2 position, Scott Nesbit beat Richard Kummer 71 percent to 29 percent.
For the commissioner 4 position, Debra Crain beat Diane Shimmin 64 percent to 36 percent.
Hospital districts
In Grant County Hospital District 1 position 3, Julie Weisenburg bested Tom Hayes 61 percent to 39 percent.
In Grant County Hospital District 3 position 3, Donna Catlow Knauss beat M Jordan Hansen 64 percent to 36 percent.
In Grant County Hospital District 4 position 2, Jennifer Schwartz beat B.L. Ready 60 percent to 39 percent.
In Grant County Hospital District 4 position 3, Charles Fogerson holds a narrow, 13 vote lead over Steve Wellein, 51 percent to 49 percent.
In Grant County Hospital District 6 position 3, Richard King beat Gary Carriere 62 percent to 37 percent.
Grant County Port District 5 Proposition 1
Voters assured the elimination of commissioner districts, with a 65 percent yes vote.
Wilson Creek Cemetery District 2 Proposition 1
Voters yelled 'yes' to this special one year maintenance and operation levy, with 82 percent in favor.
