GULCH: Beware of the hunters

Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 14 years, 1 month AGO

If you own property on or near Cougar Gulch, please put up No Hunting signs for the safety of all of us in that area.

If you are one of the many residents of the gulch, you are aware of the increasing danger we all face from hunters in our area, not only with hunters trespassing on our private property, but also an increase in road hunters.

Just last week we experienced having a road hunter shoot and kill a deer just a few feet from us as we walked down our driveway. The incident happened on private property, which was posted, but the "No Hunting" signs were not visible from where the hunter took his shot.

We have requested that the state land on the gulch to the east of Miller Road be closed to hunting because of the danger it imposes on residents whose homes border the state land, and also people driving through the state land to access their property, people walking along the road or children standing on the road waiting for the school bus. Until we see what, if any, results we get from our request, it would perhaps deter hunters if all of the private land along Cougar Gulch Road was posted.

Be sure you put "No Hunting" signs up that are visible from the road so that hunters will know your home (and you!) are neaby. The signs need to be hunter orange and need to be posted one every 600 feet.
