Moscow's Quinnett highlights Idaho women's signees

MOSCOW - Abigail Quinnett, a 6-foot-1 post from Moscow High, Ali Forde (6-2, post), Concepcion (Connie) Ballestero (5-9, guard) and Christina Salvatore (5-11, wing) signed letters of intent with the Idaho women's basketball team during the early signing period.

Quinnett is a two-time 4A Inland Empire League Most Valuable Player and two-time all-state selection, including first-team honors in 2010-11. She averaged 12.7 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game for the Bears as a junior.

Forde, from Woodinville (Wash.) High, will also play volleyball at Idaho.

Salvatore averaged 16.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.1 steals per game as a junior, leading Canyon High of Anaheim, Calif., to a 24-9 record.

Ballestero averaged 15.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.8 steals per game as a junior at Villa Park High School in Orange, Calif.

Vandals add big man in early period

MOSCOW - Forward Ty Egbert, a 6-foot-8, 200-pound forward at Lake Roosevelt High in Coulee Dam, Wash., signed a national letter of intent with the Idaho Vandals men's basketball team, becoming the first member of the school's 2012 recruiting class.

Last year, Egbert led Lake Roosevelt to a 23-5 record and fourth-place finish in the 2B classification. He was an all-state honorable mention and was the 2B North Division Player of the Year with 17.1 points and 11.4 rebounds per game as a junior.

Lewiston's Waters signs with Gonzaga women

SPOKANE - Chelsea Waters, a 6-foot-1 guard/forward from Lewiston High is one of three players to sign a letter of intent with Gonzaga's women's basketball team, joining Elle Tinkle of Big Sky in Missoula and Kiara Kudron of Huron in New Boston, Mich., the school announced.

As a freshman and sophomore, Waters attended Moscow High, where she earned 4A Inland Empire League honors and led the Bears to the league and regional championship as a sophomore. As a junior at Lewiston, Waters had 8.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.7 steals per game for the Bengals, who finished 23-4 and won the 5A state championship.

Waters father, Frank, was a standout basketball player at the University of Idaho.
