Police in Lynnwood, Wash., said a 42-year-old Rathdrum man who owns and operates a firearms business, was the shooter in what investigators determined was a murder-suicide.

Patrick M. Jones killed a man in a hotel room in Lynnwood, then shot and killed himself in his vehicle in the hotel's parking lot, said Lynnwood Police Department spokeswoman Shannon Sessions.

Jones' wife was in the hotel room, but she had no physical injuries, police said. Sessions declined to name Jones' wife, but said she had been living with him until his Oct. 19 death.

Reports of gunshots were called in to 911 at 10:30 p.m. on that day from a second floor hotel room on the 4300 block of Alderwood Mall Boulevard.

Steven G. Johnson, 48, of Medford, Ore., was found in the hotel room with fatal gunshot wounds, police said.

Other than those three individuals, no one else was involved in the shooting, police said in a press release.

The hotel staff was immediately aware of what had occurred, police said. The guests on the second floor were temporarily evacuated by police and then later returned to their rooms.

A dog was found uninjured with Jones in his vehicle. The dog was taken to a nearby 24-hour veterinarian clinic to be checked out and was later released.

Jones was the owner and manager of S.A.F. (Small Arms Factory) Lithgow.com, located at 16072 N. Crystal Springs Lane, in Rathdrum.
