BONNERS FERRY - Super 1 Foods will build a store in Bonners Ferry.

"It is official as of today," said Ryan Wilson, director of Super 1 Foods. "The store is moving forward."

Wilson said Tuesday that building could begin next week and the store could open next summer. It will be built on Main Street in the vacant lot across U.S. 95 from the Conoco gas station. A groundbreaking ceremony is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Super 1 Foods vice president Randy McIntire estimates about 85 people will need to be hired for the new store.

The Sandpoint Super 1, which opened in July 2010, was the 11th Super 1 in the region. It has 16 aisles, a salad bar, deli, pharmacy in addition to the bakery. The Sandpoint store employs about 100.

Bonners Ferry Builders will be the general contractor for the project.
