ASHLAND, Ore. - Sophomore Nick Wasierski (197 pounds) and redshirt freshman Kyle Sweedman (174) each placed third for North Idaho College at the Best of the West Open, a tournament which included NCAA Division I schools, and concluded Sunday.

Wasierski pinned teammate Justin Gillespie in 2 minutes, 30 seconds in the match for third and fourth places, after both had reached the semifinals of the two-day tournament and lost.

Mikey Rodriguez (133) and Justin Korthuis (184) each finished fifth for the Cardinals, and Joaquin Calderon (125) finished sixth.

"I was pleased with what we came away with," NIC coach Pat Whitcomb said. "With the team we have, we just need experience. The downside was the injuries (two Cardinals injury defaulted), but nothing major, they'll be back next week."

NIC hosts the Cardinal Duals on Saturday, then travels to the H.U.B. Open on Sunday in Liberty Lake.
