Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 14 years, 1 month AGO
Lookout Pass Ski and Recreation Area will open for the season on Friday.
A major winter storm dropped 21 inches of snow on the ski area along the Idaho-Montana border during the weekend, and more snow is in the forecast Wednesday through next weekend. The majority of the front side of the mountain will be open with top-to-bottom skiing off Chair 1 with a minimum of 10 runs. The beginner rope-tow will also operate.
"Our groomers are busy packing down the weekend snowfall and conditions should continue to improve throughout the week," said Phil Edholm, president and CEO of Lookout Pass. "We anticipate open powder, packed powder and freshly tilled corduroy on Friday."
Lookout will open at 9 a.m. Friday.
Two other resorts also hope to open soon.
Silver Mountain, near Kellogg, reported it received 5 inches of snow in 24 hours, and has 13 inches mid-mountain and 23 total snowfall this season.
Schweitzer Mountain Resort, near Sandpoint, reported it has received 14 inches of snow in three days, and more snow was falling Monday.
Snowmaking operations are continuing when temperatures permit, according to Schweiter's website.
