COEUR d'ALENE - Mike and Charity Wixom, owners of Pepe Caldo Pizzeria, will be serving up a free dinner on Thanksgiving.
The eatery at 1606 N. Fourth St. will offer a traditional feast of turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, vegetables and salad. It will begin serving at 1 p.m. and keep the doors open until 5 or 6, when the food runs out.
All are welcome, from those who don't want to cook to those who don't have family or a home or just can't afford to eat out.
Charity Wixom said about 50 people came to their free Thanksgiving dinner last year. They do it to give back to the community.
"Basically, the community has been really awesome to us," she said. "If it wasn't for our customers, we wouldn't be here."
There will be plenty of seating and parking.
There are other free Thanksgiving dinners planned in the area.
For the 13th straight year, Mike and Vickie Hillicoss will be putting on a free Thanksgiving meal in Coeur d'Alene at the Lake City Center. They're expecting more than 500 to show up for the dinner, dessert, music and fellowship from noon to 2 p.m. on Nov. 24.
They need 40 turkeys, 20 hams and 60 pies to feed everyone, and could still use donations of food or cash. Volunteers are needed to help with decorations, cleanup, music and meal delivery.
