The Coeur d'Alene Symphony Orchestra, with choruses from local schools, presents the sounds of Christmas concert. The works presented will be traditional and new.
The program is set for 7:30 p.m. Dec. 10 at Schuler Performing Arts Center, 1000 W. Garden Ave., North Idaho College.
Local composer William Berry wrote "American Carols," which will feature local choirs from Coeur d'Alene, Charter and Lake City High schools.
"American Carols" presents definitive settings of 13 obscure but wonderful songs from the American folk tradition from before 1865.
The Coeur d'Alene Symphony re-commissioned the work for mixed adult choir and orchestra and will give the premiere performance of this version in 2011.
Verne Windham was the first conductor of "American Carols," originally commissioned in 2003. Verne is the music and arts director of KPBX, Spokane Public Radio. He will give a pre-concert talk at 7.
Other works include Rimsky-Korsakov Polonaise from the Christmas Eve Suite, and selections from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite.
Tickets are $20 adults, $15 seniors, $8 students to age 18.
